Mr. Norman Brinker founded the original Willow Bend Polo and Hunt Club in 1972-1973. By the 1980’s and early 1990’s Willow Bend Polo and Hunt Club was considered to be the largest and most popular polo clubs in the United States! For more specifics about the history and why it closed, which caused the formation of the Las Colinas Polo Club by enthusiastic “Willowbender” polo players, please go to the “History” page located on this site.
Recently in early 2016, Mr. Payne decided to re-activate his Willow Bend Polo Club to the public. He and his team are busy resurrecting competitive league play at his private polo ranch. They are busy developing a nice field side pavilion.
The spring/summer polo season in Texas runs typically from April/May through the end of June. Due to the heat of the summer for the safety of horse and rider, polo clubs take a break July & August. The fall schedule resumes after Labor Day in September and continues through the end of November due to the cold weather in December.
Polo fields are naturally lit by the sun, not stadium lights. Therefore you may notice the start times begin to vary due to daylight savings time.
Polo fields can be very slippery when wet which can make things a bit treacherous for the horse and rider that are traveling at speeds of up to 30-40 MPH on a wet grass lawn. Therefore, in the event of rain polo matches will be canceled.
Stonebriar Polo Club is now managed by their next door neighbor, the Willow Bend Polo Club located in Little Elm, Texas
The Stonebriar Polo Club is very laid back and is a great league for players that are new to the sport while getting to play with some very experienced polo players that come with decades of polo in their dimly lineage.

The Prestonwood Polo Club’s polo lawns have been removed and are currently under reconstruction. They do have arena polo which is played on sand, not grass. That being said, we do not want people to be misled, expecting a large, lush green lawn. They have plans for an expansive development, so stay tuned but it does not happen over night.
